Floating Drydock Gato/Balao plan book back - In eBook format

Just in time for the Revell Gato kit, the great plan book is being expanded and rereleased on CD at http://www.floatingdrydock.com/ $30 includes shipping and handling.

Since I was never able to obtain a copy of the book (just got to leaf through a friend's), I ordered this one immediately.

          You had me worried, Jeff.

You had me worried, Jeff. I've ordered it, and plan to have my local print shop print it out, full size. I guess I can live without the cover.

              It looks like it will

It looks like it will take some experimenting to get pages printed like in the old hardcopy version.....

                I guess my biggest reservation

[color=#000000]I guess my biggest reservation is that the old print version was throughout scaled for 1/96. We will have to figure out how to get the files to print in the correct scalings from the e-book. On the other hand, one may be able to print out inthe scale desired bya adjusting parameters.

A technical question (almost certainly for Jeff Larue, given his computer background)]

                  Tom,

                  I definitely agree with your

                  Tom,

I definitely agree with your observation about the printed version having the various diagrams in known scales that could be directly used by the modeler. Some of us need to try printing some of the diagrams to see what scale they print as.

The printers generally available to today are accurate enough for our use. It's the various software applications that are used to display, scale and then send the image to the printer that potentially introduce scaling problems.

Thanks, Jeff. I guess I would include in the question the ability of the software to correctly drive the printer output to scale.

What we really need are those big, honkin' HP printers used to generate poster displays. For scientific presentations at meetings, we compose our poster as landscape figures (postscript files), and then our graphics dept. prints them as 4 X 8 (feet) single sheets. I can't imagine trying to a 1/72 scale Gato on your home printer... Lots of taping together of 8 1/2 X 11 inch sheets.

Yup, I hear you. I'm glad I do have one of "those big, honkin' HP printers " in my office. It's a plotter that takes 36 inch wide rolls of paper. I use it for plotting out the test shots of my U-boat decks. Oh...yea, I use it for work too.
