Revised editions of Dr. Norman Freidman's books on US submarine design history

Just purchased (on sale) the two 'Illustrated Design History" books by Dr. Norman Friedman revised edition. The first, 'Through 1945 has been reprinted with some changes. The second, of possibly more interest "After 1945" has a new section dealing with the Seawolf and post-Seawolf era including the Virginia Class. In addition he has included in the text and his extended 'notes' discussion of the loss of Thresher and Scorpion.
The two books are classics in naval history. Dr Friedman has written similar books on just about all forms of US naval ships. The two on submarines detail the history of the design process, purchase process and physical designs of all the submarine classes in the US Navy from Alligator through Virginia and many of the variants and proposed designs.
Even though somewhat pricey the books are great reference works and a fine addition to any submarine history buff.
A word about the illustrations. Both illustrators are friends of mine and 'great people'. They don't receive any stipend for sales of the books thus in the interest of full disclosure the research is first rate. Who did which drawing is indicated by the caption. Those done by the listed illustrator (Jim Christley) are so stated. If no illustrator is listed for a particular drawing it was done by Dr. Friedman.
