    The Otto Prohaska novels

Anybody read these before by John Biggins? I found the first one, "A Sailor of Austria", as a free Kindle download on BookBub. It reads like Patrick O'Brien writing WWI U-boats. So far a LOT of fun.

We need to get our resident Sub Books columnist to give it a read and provide a review!

Careful!!!! Dig too much and you'll start singing snappy Disney show tunes!! Kaptn. Von Trapp was an Austrian Navy U-Boot officer.

The waves are alive, with the sounds of ASDIC
with pings that have rung, for a 1000 yards!

          HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thank you Tom!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

            The waves are alive,
            With the sound of sub'rines
            With deeds they have done
            For a hundred years...

I'm only a hundred pages or so in and he's already referenced von Trapp. It really is well done. It is written as a memoir of the protagonist, a Lieutenant in the Austro-Hugarian Navy who takes command of U-8 in 1915. He's already referred to his boat's designer as "that murderous school teacher John Holland."
              Warm regards,

                        and I'll sing no more….

Classic! For those seduced by the lyrics, the book is still available for free Kindle download here.
