    U-96 deck fittings color(s) ...

    I'm at the painting stage of a Revell 1/144 Type VIIC, built up to represent U-96 with the net cutters on the bow. The instructions say to paint the deck-mounted net cutter, the railings alongside the sail and the rail supports on the aft deck (and other fittings) in the same color as the deck; however, the painting guide at the end of the sheet indicates they should be the color of the upper hull between the anti-fouling and the deck (same as the sail, btw).

    I have yet to find any semi-definitive sources, and am fully prepared to go with what I think looks best if no "official" info is available. Any insight or educated speculation is welcome!

    There are photos of the Type VII (variants A, B, and C) that show the netcutter in done either way......both the dark and the light grey. So in the absence of a definitive photo of the U-96 showing her with a netcutter, you can choose what looks best to you,

    The railings and such appear to have been done with the light grey....
