The u-boat(s) arrived!! Two of them come in on box!! One is U-552 (Topp)and the other is U-201 (Schnee). The color scheme is excellent down to minor details. U-201 has the interior worn out (dirty look) while U-552 has its interior pristine.

After opening the 16 smaller boxes (each section comes in a small box) I've found that the u-552 is the one with a darker hue and u-201 comes with a "new" look. I think that the whole crew is represented in the models, some of them sleeping, others in the control room, others in the CT, etc.
The only thing about these little guys is that they are unpainted, made of soft plastic and they have a base.
The model is now on my bookshelf. I will build a nice case for it ASAP.
There are many things that can be improved: paint the crewmen, remove their bases, realign some parts, scratch build railings, periscope tubes, add lights (I would love to put some blue and red lights) but in all is an excellent and unique model of a Typ VIIC with accurate interiors.

You are correct. I've checked my Anatomy of the ship book and it is what you said. but it is way oversized! Hmm, more things to "fix". In any case is a much better model than those from Revell (i.e. Type VIIb and Type XXI)
I agree it looks like that, I was expecting to find a
high pressure air container for ejecting the torps.
But VOzM shows annotated cut-throughs on page
62, and it says there
"ankerspillantrieb". Also, on page 61, there is a drawing containing 3 overviews, upper one again says
"ankerspillantrieb".
"Ankerspillantrieb" translates literally to "anchor capstan drive mechanism", which makes sense. If you have access to the Fritz Köhl drawings, that part on the model corresponds to the manual linkage in the forward torpedo room that is directly below and connected to the capstan, both in turn linked to the anchor winch.
That long white horizontal tube in the model is the shaft connecting the capstan and manual wheel to the vertical ring forward that represents the anchor winch.
