    1/144 USS Gato

Not quite finished with my 1/72 scale Balao conversion, and already thinking about what's next.

I'm thinking I wanna do Wahoo.

I see that Trumpeter offers 2 1/144 scale versions of Gato, 1941 and 1944.

From the picture on the boxes it would seem 1 kit (41) looks "factory" with no wartime conning tower cut downs, and the other (44) looks too, um, I'll call it Balao'd, to be used for the 1943 version of Wahoo.

Has anyone built either of these kits and wanna offer any advice?

    Trumpeter Gato 1/144

I've built the Trumpeter Gato 1944 version. It was a big disappointment. The bridge has absolutely NO detail. The cigarette deck rail posts are shaped wrong and have no horizontal rails. The lookout stations are non existant, and the guns are worse than the old Revell Lionfish. I was really looking forward to this kit, and ended up throwing it away. I sure hope Revell releases a 1/72 version of their outstanding kit.
