I see that some modellers have built Type XXIII kits with a wooden walkway on the hull. Was this a stowed feature, or was it present all the time? I have the ICM 1/144 kit, which doesn't have this feature, and am considering whether to add it.
it's located foreward of the conning tower, usually deployed in 2 separate sections. It's not a permanent fixture, and seems to be used more often than not when the boat was pierside. I've also got some photos of it on what looks to be a training run.
