Looking for Sept. 1996 article on Lionfish mods - Who wrote and where published?

I've seen reference to an article that was published somewhere in September 1996 on converting the Revell Lionfish to different Gato/Balao versions. I'd like to see the entire article but don't know where to look.

    That would be Ken Hart's

That would be Ken Hart's article in the now defunct "Scale Model" (??) magazine. He did a pierside diorama and constructed an early war Gato, mid war Gato, & a Balao, all tied to a pier. He scratchbuilt the fairwaters. You can use the Nautilus Models resin conversion kits (available in early Gato, mid war Gato, late war Gato and Balao). IIRC, it was also published in an earlier issue of the SCR.

        Thanks to both of you.

        Thanks to both of you.

Tom - I pretty much tried to follow the path you described in your Blenny model for my first Lionfish conversion (Jack - SS259). (You also kindly helped me understand the Measure 9 paint scheme.) In that model I used the Nautilus fairwater, photo etch, and wood deck along with HR products anchor, capstan, etc. Although I was pretty pleased with the result (first time with the aftermarket stuff), this time I want to try more scratchbuilding and am interested in the different techniques accomplished modelers use.

rokket - Another responder said that he would send me a hardcopy; I really appreciate your offer and I may be back to you should the cross border (Canada/US) mail fail us.

Yep, I know what you mean! Improving building techniques is a great idea, and can be fun and rewarding. And, in the end, that's what a hobby is all about!
