USN sub which fired the REGULUS missle

Or better yet, a Squadron/Signal copy of the USN subs ?

I stupidly lost it during a major shop clean up.
If any one has the booklet and can scan that page about her I would appreciate it very much. I am going to scratch build her and not a newer Boomer.
What easy to get plans of classes, are fair game, if I have to " wing it ".

Not familiar with that particular Squadron book. There are several sources for the fleetboat plans (which can be converted to what you need based on available pics on the web). The best would be the National Archives. They may even be able to supply the "as-converted" plans. You need to supply them with the hull number.

HALIBUT plans (and other nuke hulls) are not available. HALIBUT is *especially* tough to come by based on her later role as a spec ops boat.

I would like to agree with the Security Concept . But i am old enough to have lived thru the huge uproar when the Nukes came out and a month later plastic models were on sale in stores all over the country.
So much for security .
Very often a internal security is in place but everybody else in the world has already heard about it and forgot about it by the time it is Declassified.
Kind of like the President registering as a agent of Dubi to have Dubi do our port security, because no USA company had as high a Secret Clearence.

As it turns out, those models were horribly wrong guesses. The models of the Nautilus, Seawolf, and the Renwal cut-away Polaris submarines were way off in terms of accuracy. The cutaway stimulated a few sarcastic comments to the press from Rickover, but there really wasn't any huge uproar. Rickover was very concerned about the release of any information around the nuclear propulsion system, so he had very tight restrictions on even commenting on whether something was close or not. If you look at the old Renwal kits, they don't have any obvious turbines, nor is there even a propeller shaft represented in the engineering area.

As far as the Regulus SSGs, there were the two fleet submarines that were converted (Barbero & Tunny) and two purpose-built SSGs that were built upon the Tang class diesel attack boat plan, with 2 forward hangers faired in atop the deck. One of these, the Grayback, holds the distinction of being the only submarine to launch the advanced, supersonic Regulus II missile (just before the program was cancelled). The SSGN Halibut was a modified Skate class hull, and she was equipped with the same S3W reactor (7500 SHP), which made her underpowered & slow. All of five of these Regulus submarines performed deterrance patrols off the east coast of Russia during the early 60's. These ended in 1964 when Polaris SSBNs assumed the role. Subsequently, USS Halibut was modified (a couple of times) for Spec Ops, and the Regulus hanger reconfigured with decks & other.....items. She got thrusters & the "DSRV Simulator", which was really a saturation diving chamber for very deep diver operations.

If you want a display model of Halibut, the Japanese firm Pitroad (Seawolf/Torpedo series) makes a 1/350 resin & white metal scale model of Halibut with a Regulus I missile. The model seems to match all of the photos I have seen and Jim Christley's Halibut drawing in Norman Friedman's US Submarines Since 1945. I am getting very close to getting my 1/96 scale kit done here are pics of how I have done this spec ops project. I have plans drawn up as well I just need to get them inked and copied 4 sheets showing plan view and profile drawn to 1/96 scale. 22.50 per set

I can't tell for sure, but it looks as if you have the "short sail" on your model. The sail was extended vertically fairly early in Halibut's career, and if you look at the last set of photos you posted, the "intermediate" version of the Spec Ops boat with the single thruster (which turned out to be largely useless) mounted on the hanger has the taller sail.

The "final" Spec Ops had two sets of two thrusters, one set at the bow, one at the stern, mounted in the superstructure, along with the saturation diving tank on the stern.

Tom as usual you have pointed out my short commings much appreciated no slight intended I did not include all the info I should have the kit will have both the short and tall sails, bow jet deverter, and sat chamber so the varients are all there I am working on a set of hull mounted holding thruster for the bow and stern as well if anyone else has info to add or contributed I would greatly appreciated it once the kit is done and ready for retail I will not forget who helped.
