    First look-New Type VII-C/41 - Revell 1/72 kit

OK, folks, here's the German IPMS website with a look at the parts trees for the new Revell Type VII-C/41, the follow on kit to the Type VII-C kit. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

In a related matter, here's a real good photo series on U-995 for your U-boat research & viewing pleasure. Click on the last word in German (aussenansicht); it is hyperlinked. Alternatively, you can move your mouse over the U-boat diagram at the top. You will see an interior drawing superimposed over sections. Click the drawing to take you to that section of photos.

    Thanks for the link Tom!
    Aftermarket

    Thanks for the link Tom!
Aftermarket suppliers- get yourselves ready! Let's see, I'll need a deck( wood- (Nautilus Models?) brass (Jason?), some new gun barrels, correct scopes...(Steve, you listening?)

At first glance, it looks like Revell did not fix the UZO placement issue (Still looks off center on the CT floor), and the anchor well still looks off (but I won't do major surgery to move it like some builders have...).
I see a definite change in the bow (enough for an Atlantik bow, Herr Larue?)
I did not see the schorkel details on the photos, nor did I see the mattress antenna on a sprue either. (the antenna array would be a nice photoetch detail to have...)

Minor stuff, really... I can't wait to get my hands on one. Overall I this kit looks really good..
I'm going to place my preorder right NOW at Squadron. It's supposed to be available in February...

        good eyes Ronald...that's it!
A brass one would be a nice improvement.

          Hi Sam,

The bow has definitely been changed.

It appears to have a correct 'hump' to it, but it's not clear that it has the necessary width/thickness to it. The photo actually makes it look like it's flared out...but that could be an effect of the lighting. We'll need to see a bows-on view to be certain.

....and yea, that bloody UZO is still in the wrong place!

[color=#000000]I have visited U995 last year in very good weather and made a shipload of high res (4mp) exterior photo's. I will upload them into a gallery and provide login details (if applicable) here.
I've paid carefull attention to try and show as much detail as possible (what's behind floodgates and stuff like that).

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I thought there would be someone out there who had bought one.

You should still be able to use the same brass scopes that Steve Nuttall makes. I'm sure he already makes the .37 barrell and we know he makes the .20. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a kit with the 2 scopes, the 4 .20's, the one .37 and the prop shafts. I wonder how much it will be?

I hope Modelbrass comes up with a new deck.

The only thing about the Revell kit that I really wish they had done differently, is the compass housing. At least give us the option of having one forward of the CT and not up against it like earlier versions.

                    Take Care,

                    Jess

Hey Jess. I caught that too. But that box housing would be farily simple to fabricate, and removing the attached one wouldn't be too difficult...
