    Revell 1/72 Gato!!!

Well, I just talked to my friend who does work for Revell/Monogram and he confirms that Revell USA is putting out a 1/72 Gato. The proof, he is working on the instruction sheet right now! He is going to allow me to post a few pages this week. Take that you Nazis sub lovers!!

      Here's hoping the boys on

Here's hoping the boys on our side of the pond match the quality of, the other side's, German U-Boote. But, wheither they do, or not, I'm getting a couple.
I'm planning to turn them into Guppys, so I'll have to do a lot of modifying, anyhow. And, if they do an EB boat, I'll have to move the anchor to the otherside, too.

Ok, Revell USA is issuing them but they are being made by Revell AG. So the quality will be there.

            I know a LOT of

I know a LOT of folks that are going to be all over that model if the quality and detail are there. Any timeframe estimates? If they're doing the instructions, they must be close to the end?

                Anybody know how they plan

Anybody know how they plan to do the hull? Half hull, port and starboard, fore and aft, top and bottom or some other combination?
                This'll be a BIG 'un!

I would only imagine it'll be port / starboard, like the VIIc. It seems to me this would be the easiest for casting. Hope they've got lots of big boxes on hand.

You're referring to how Revell would 'cast' the model, right?

                        Ok, just got back from

Ok, just got back from Revell. I talked with one of the VP's and he told me that he wants to hold off a little while longer with some photos. The expected date of release will be 3rd quarter of '06. They know that there were many versions of the Gato so they will probably do a generic version. I did show him a copy of The Subcommitee and he was very impressed with it. Well, thats it for know. I will be sure to pass along any new info. Also they are very open to your comments so keep them coming.

Generic Gato? Why am I not reassured by that phrase? I have this horrible vision of an rescaled version of the Lionfish kit. I hope they include enough parts to modify to a specific version of the boat. Do they plan to use EB or government design limber holes? Early, mid war or late Gato tower?

"Also they are very open to your comments so keep them coming".

Who specifically are "they" and how do we contact them? If they were very impressed by the SCR, why would they not want to speak with SC members to get some ideas and preview test shots of the model prior to releasing the kit? A huge pool of submarine modeling talent, and they wouldn't avail themselves of that opportunity?

It's About time.. I can see it now the guys & gals at TOM's doing the work-up for a series of Guppy Sails and Bows.
Actually I would be happy with a 1/350 scale "Plastic" Kit of a Gato or better yet a Balao Boat.
