Revell Type VII Railings - sizes?

I posted this on another part of this website and saw no answers.
What size brass rods seem to look right for making the wintergarden, rungs, and rails on the sail of the Revell Type VII?
I bet someone has lashed one together and stood back and was satisfied.

Wayne,

I have dimensions for the railings...but my notebook is at home and I'm not!

I'll try to remember to pull them this weekend.

p.s. if you send me an e-mail, it would be a useful reminder!

Jeff,
I would be interested too. The rails on my boat are broken and warped. Brass seems to be the best fix.
Thanks

Gents,
I think you can figure out the actual diameter of the rails from pics like this]http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-604Binn9.jpg[/img]

My guess is 2" diameter

My guess is 2" diameter pipe (in the Photo).

Being that this is a european vessel and the fact that its 50 odd years old, I doubt that railing diameters have changed much in the last several decades.

Nowadays, pipe railings are generally between 1.25" and 2" diameter (1.5" being most common).

Sorry,
I meant the size for the brass rod forthe 1/72 hull for the wintergarden, rungs, and deck rails

One and a half inches

One and a half inches works out to, a hair less than, .021", in 1]

I would say 2"... Looks bigger than 1.5" to me. I was trying to imitate the hand gesture of the crew member grabbing the handrail and figure out the diameter. But I'm a big guy and my hand is also big so maybe I'm wrong

Last night I laid some

Last night I laid some .032 brass rod next to the plastic wintergarden. It looks about right, although the verticals look slightly smaller.
I think the rungs and rail around the base may be the same size also......
Seems like a silly thing to debate. I know a few out there have done this.
Kinda like the RCB question I had not long ago. ( How deep? ),
seems like an obvious question. Surprising I have not seen this question before.....

Hmmm... I don't own a Revell Type VII but I think one way in figuring out the correct size is by comparing the actual plastic railings provided in the kit itself to brass rods you have in stock, it's only a matter of time to finding the closets match!

I remember seeing a post

I remember seeing a post just about the time the kit was released that talked about the inaccurate railings and corrective sizes were mentioned (still looking for the post). It could have been on a different forum.
The thread did say that the rails in the kit were way out of scale on the heavy side, so I wouldn't go by comparing brass rod to the kit rails.
My two cents.

P.S. I did find the post. April 13 04 under scatch built parts.
