    Type 212 question

This weekend, I've been working on a 1/350 Hobby Boss Type 212 (small model!). There is a square frame attached to the aft diving planes. Anyone have an idea what this does?????

    Thanks

It is my understanding, it is a guard or protection keeping a towed array from getting fowled up in the prop.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Protect the prop against the wire controlled torpedo. So far i know there donĀ“t use this anymore.

Confirmation of what those wires are for is difficult, but I have read that they are to prevent fouling the TAS-3 low-frequency towed array sonar with the prop.

Check out this photo for a great stern view where the hull plating that normally covers the towed array has been removed.
