So roughly the size of the Revell 1/72 Gato?

Yup, you got it. It's just about the same.....

A Type VIIC U-boat is 67.1 meters LOA or 220.144 feet LOA. That works out to be 4.58 feet or 55.03 inches in 1/48th scale.

A Gato is 311 ft 8 in LOA. That works out to be 4.329 feet or 51.95 inches in 1/72nd scale.

p.s. for those that are curious, a Type IXC U-boat is 76.76 meters LOA or 251.837 feet LOA. Making even the Type IX a smaller boat that a Gato.
