Yeah, a real big sucker!
TRUMPETER SCALE MODELS TSM-6801
1/48 German Type VIIC U552 U-Boat
$0.00 TBA

wow. that would be, what, in the 50+ inch range?
I have a bunch of Trumpeter kits; aircraft and boats... depending on the subject, they are either pretty damn good (1/24 scale Spitfire MK V) or so-so (1/32 scale A10)...
I hope they get this one right.

That is big, but I have to agree. Trumpeter really is hit and miss. the Kilo is good, but their Romeo is just appalling.

Hope it would be readily available as compared to Arkmodels 1/48 Type VII. Heard they have issues with undelivered orders.

umm....
the 1/48 German U-Boat Type VIIC for $499.95 on Freetime Hobbies IS the Ark Model kit.... and it is also listed as Out of Stock...

The Ark model is made for rc. More durable, no fittings needed. The hull is in 3 parts that screw together. Only thing is they didn't do the overlaps right to open up for access to the wtc.

The Trumpeter kit will be polystyrene. I am wondering how good the part joining fits on the hull will be in polystyrene stretching over 55 inches. It depends on where the hull breaks are located.
Meanwhile, as we await the 1/48 scale Trumpeter kit (could be good, like their Kilo, or could be not so great like their Seawolf), it's time for Jeff to start thinking about how to rescale 1/72 photo etch to 1/48 scale...
