ID:	149178 The Akula class SSNs were fielded at the same time as the more "high end" titanium hulled Sierra class. Unlike the Sierras that Akulas have the so-called "limousine" streamlined sails that blend into the hull.

          Thanks thor for the response! Do I assume correctly that they just slide back into the hull similar to how the Los Angels sub works since I see no slots for rotating or other folding mechanism?

            That is correct. Very similar to an LA Flight III.
