Since water levels have been so low this year I think BD's a better candidate. It could only help.....
But then again there are laws on pollution..... and the fines are tremendous.
How about permanently attaching a camera to Paul, then were are always sure of under water video at every meet.
Sooo ... I was kind of thinking video of submarines would win first place ... but what you describe above also has a chance of winning based on the mood of the judges.
Great idea, could really bring out some creative productions, (love the sound tracks on most of them) ...but I think there should be a time restriction, 30 seconds max or so, to prevent full feature films.
*WHEN* I get my boat in the water, buying a video camera is soon to follow. Looking forward to entering the competition.
Sorry Ben, looks like some of us 8 Balls got a little off topic. Yes, you have a excellent idea. Until we find some indoor running place (we lost our YMCA this year) our videos will have to wait. I've got some ideas to try with the camera when we are running again.
Sure save all the good videos for the subregatta!
Since most of you will be building and not running
this winter, how about building and how to videos?
You know how to shave off fingers while building
subs. Flooding your home during ballast testing before
renewing your home owners insurance.
Video the look on your wifes face when you
explain spending the family fortune on subs.
Work on your special effects and video those subs without
water?
The month before the regatta have all post there videos here.
Then we could vote the week before the regatta online.
Then announce or present the award at the regatta.

Scott,
I like it! This solves the problem of how folks bring their video to the regatta for judgeing, as well as who the judges are.
Tim,
If you like this option, I can endevour to organize it.
Do you still have the VHS clip I gave you of that event back then? I must have the original 8mm tape of it here somewhere, but no means to digitize it.

When you are at the regatta, you pay the entry fee before you run (or your sub is otherwise judged.) Otherwise only the guys who win would pay the fee. Entry fees are used to pay for the awards plaques.
In other words - they don't let you wait to buy your fishing license until after you catch the fish
Tim,
It could work depending on how the forum software is set up.
Example: set up a video contest thread, put someone in charge of that thread like BC (just because of what he posted above). Then if you want to enter a video, send payment and a copy of the video to whomever you decide it should got to and then it will be posted and voted on. The video thread itself should probably be locked except for the person in charge and another thread within the video section could be set up for voting either by all members here or designated judges. There would have to be deadlines though for posting. This is just a quick thought with room for tweaking.
