    Lead weights

I read in one of the SCR stories about needing to buy lead weights for ballasting purposes. Another source for weights would be a sporting goods store that carries duck decoys and accessories-there are lead strips available in 8oz. and 16oz. sizes that are used for decoy weights. I'm not sure if they are cheaper than the model car weights.
Or you can make your own as I do, strips or mushrooms with a ladle, pot, and lots of heat...

    Even easier.
Go buy a bag of #7 bird shot. Mix the lead bird shot with epoxy and make a slurry. if you lay down a temporary barrier in your hull, you can form fit the slurry to the inside of the hull; otherwise just lay it out in bars on wax paper and let it harden. Break off what you need and epoxy in place.

[size=200]As well, most tire mounting stores use lead plugs to balance the tires they install. They frequently damage the mounting tabs during installation, and basically throw the damaged lead weights away. I visited a local store that had boxes and boxes of damaged weights, simply because they didn't think about recycling them.
I was told I could take as many weights as I wanted, whenever I wanted
