    Can someone identify these motors?

I am starting my SSY 1/48th SS-306 fleet boat and found these motors in my parts stash. the big one is 4" overall with a 7 splined coupler on a 3mm shaft and has 15 with a small circle near it and no other markings. The medium size one has a smaller round shaft with MARIBUCHI PAT. on the contact end and Made in Hong Kong on the output end. The small one has ROAR and JAPAN on the shaft end(which has a flat spot milled on it)with EPIC on the other end with the number 16 and 5. All of them spin at some speed with 6v hooked to them. There are a pair of each of these and I thought that they might make a good power source.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

The small one rings a bell.
ROAR stands for ROAR (Remotely Operated Auto Racers)
This motor is probably a 27T(urn) motor used in 1/10 rc cars.
On a 7.4V battery pack probably 19.000 rpm, this motor was classified "High torque".......before the brushless motors made their entry .

The intermediate one......sure it isn't mentioning MABUCHI? That's a common Japanese
brand of small motors. There are so many types it hard to tell witch one you have.

    Grtz,

Yes, the second one is Mabuchi. Does anyone know how to test a motor-rpm, torque, etc.? I would like to use the big ones for my 1/48th TANG. Of course I don't know what would be a scale like speed for a 6'6" sub ? Is there a formula for estimating the size of motor needed or is it mostly guess work? My 1/96 BISMARCK had a direct drive on all three props and while blowing fuses to the speed controllers constantly, it would leave a rooster tail behind it at full speed, not at all scale like...

If you have Excel you can use this Speed Calculator by entering your boat's scale and the speed you want to scale.
Gives you distances travel in hour and minutes by feet and inches.

Example: If you want your boat to have a speed of 10 knots the calculator will give you the feet or inches needed to travel in one minute.

          Hi,

The intermediate is probably a 540 type.....you can determine the exact type if you do some test and compare them with the data sheet below (dimensions, idle amps, rpm's at a specific voltage)
