Looking for a suitable hull to test my micro cylinder in I came across a kit I had purchased for scale detail.
It is a Revell 1/144 Type 212.
Thus starts my short build I call the tale of four 212's.
It's no secret my favorite boat to run is the 212.
They handle like my Mini Cooper. Like they are on rails.
And anything with an X tail I am so there.
My first 212 was the 1/96 hull my good friend Steve Neill was making for a while.
One of the smoothest fiberglass molding jobs I have ever seen.
Smooth as glass. Ha!
My second 212 was the 1/48 scale hull sold by ARkmodel.
My third 212 was my 1/72 scale Engel kit.
So when I came across the 1/144 kit in my kit pile I quickly grabbed the box and pulled out the hull to attempt the insertion of my MD1 cylinder.
I had good hopes it would fit even with the hull being only 16" long.
One thing about the 212 is although is stubby it is big in girth.
I was delighted to see my 1.5"x 11" MD1 fit with hopefully enough room to add ballast or foam to trim the boat out.
So I have set about trying to make this a working sub.
It has been a project not for the faint of heart.
The X-tail linkages have turned out to be quite the miniature fabrication project.
I was remembering reading someone complaining about no room to work on the Engel kit linkages and thinking try 1/144 scale. Ha!
So far I have the cylinder mounted, got how the hull will open sorted out, and the X tails working.
It should be such a fun boat to run.
Fingers crossed. BD.
