'O' ring size? - where can I find?

What is the correct size 'O' ring for sealing the WTC-3 (3 inch outside diameter)? Is it trial and error, or is there a specific size known and commonly used?

Ace hardware has one that seems close....Stock # 4203Y51
    2 7/8" x 2 1/2" x 3/16".

    Is this it?

    Thank you,

      Hi, fellars..

Ehm.... "O-ring grease"? Would it be OK to use Vaseline, or some other non-oil based stuff (silicone?), or is it vital to the degree of water proofness that "O-ring grease" is used?

        Vaseline is petroleum based which

Vaseline is petroleum based which will speed the degradation of rubber, as will oil. You are better off using silicone grease available at hardware or plumbing shops - also scuba diving suppiers shops sell it for lubricating <GASP> O-rings!
