On the look out for any info on the emblems on these boats mainly from the 12th flotilla. I don't wish to model the U177 as the kit depicts.
thanks in advance for any help
There was a total of 46 boats assigned to the 12th...and most of them had some form of tower emblem. (I don't know how many of them were Type IXD2 U-boats)
I am assuming that you don't have access to George Hogel's excellent book on U-boat emblems....so may I suggest that you go here:
The U-boat War in World War Two (Kriegsmarine, 1939-1945) and World War One (Kaiserliche Marine, 1914-1918) and the Allied efforts to counter the threat. Over 40.000 pages on the officers, the boats, technology and the Allied efforts to counter the U-boat threat.
....and see if there are one or two boats that have a history you'd be interested in. Then let me know and I will be glad to describe the emblem in words. if it sounds like an emblem you'd like to use, I will then scan it and post it here for you to see.
Jeff,
I still haven't finish the U177 as yet, been in and out of hospital for the past 3 years, but I am now up to doing the deck with all those slots to cut out. I did get a copy of George Hogel's book and it looks good, what a great reference, now I have to choose a scheme.
