Bayonet fitting vs Pressure

Hi,

Hoping to source a little of the collective wisdom here.....finally got really frustrated with my static dive conversion of the Robbe U47 with Engel tank. I've had little success in keeping it watertight due to the internal overpressure generated by the piston. So I bought one of those german guy's beautifully made bayonet ring fittings. Now I'm at the stage of taking to the hull to cut it into the internal tube. This isn't going to be an easy thing to do as a retrofit.

So, before I start...has anybody done this successfully? Is the bayonet fitting able to seal against the internal over pressure developed by the tank?

Any comments appreciated before I get into this.....you only get to cut it up once......

They work very well. Same type of seal is used in the Engel Lafayette, and in several of Norberts kits.

Don't envy your task retrofitting this though- I think you're going to have to chop your boat about a bit to get it in.
