    Removing photoetch parts

Is there a way to remove, perhaps chemically, photoetch parts from a fiberglass hull? If not, does anyone have 2 photoetch 1/96 hatches for a Scaleships Akula ?

    Wayne,

What type of adhesive was used when they were first attached?

It looks like CA was used.

It's been a while, doesn't CA degrade in hot water...?

          Re: Removing photoetch parts

One of these days when I get a round-tuit I'm gonna try this:
Take some paper and make a rubbing of the hatch and then temporarily
glue it to some soda pop plastic bottle or aluminum can and cut the pattern out.
Sorry no help unsticking the glued PE but maybe a way to reproduce it.

Your hobby shop should sell CA Debonder. It works, I know, I have used it many times.

The Original Super Glue Corporation produces powerful adhesives for household/DIY projects, crafts, office and anywhere you need a solution that sticks!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

If you are careful, you can try a mini-torch to heat the PE hatch. It will discolor the metal, but will destroy the CA bond. Just be careful of the fumes, thay are dangerous to breath.

Acetone will break the CA bond, without damging the epoxy glass hull. The CA debonders I've seen are Acetone based, but I think they stick some other chemicals in there too.

                    Wayne,

Go with the acetone or debonder (same thing at 10x the price). It will come up with patience.

Thanks guys. I will try the acetone.
So, I need just one spare vladimer Akula hatch now, instead of two.

                        Re: Removing photoetch parts

I tried nail polish remover (acetone). I soaked the intended part once yesterday, and again this morning. I then took an exacto and it slipped right under the part and it lifted off clean.
For those who need to do that, this works.
