    How much weight in a Revel Gato

    So I was wondering if you guys could give me a ballpark Idea as to how much weight you needed to ad to the bottom
    of your revel Gato? I know the size of the WTC & other factors make a difference, I'm just tryin to get a ballpark
    Idea as to how much I'm gonna need. So let me know how much & where you placed your ballast.

      I do not know. I am going to work on trimming my Revell Gato very soon. If no one responds, I will post what I find out.

          Lot of factors influence that- displacement of pressure hull/wtc and the weight of equipment you have inside are the two main things.

              Just wondering maybe you can help again, so what size WTC are you using?
              The reason I ask is I am Building my own and am Trying to get an Idea as to how
              large a tube is needed. I am using A 2 1/2 and have not figured the total legnth
              Are you using a 2 1/2 inch WTC? are U using a Mfgd tube or did you make your own
              I need to figure out how long I need to make the tube? Maybe some can Help

                  @ sub culture - you are right, but an estimate is helpful, do I need 30? pounds or 8 pounds? - I think that is all Jack and I are looking for.

                  @Jack - I am using D&E 2.5" WTC - the standard length is 30"

                          Well a 30" long 2.5" diameter cylinder will displace about 5.3 pounds of water.

                          Lets say the module weighs a couple of pounds, radio and batteries another pound, and I reckon you will need to allow another pound or so to keep that Gato at it's scale waterline (note these are best guesses). That leaves you with about a 1.3 pounds of lead in the keel.

                          As my guesstimates are rough, I would say allow 1-2 pounds of lead, more if you add foam to improve stability.

                                  I don't know offhand what the breakdown is, but all totaled my Gato weighs in right around 9 pounds, ready to run. The sealed cylinders of the pressure hull total about 23 inches long by 2.5 inches diameter, supplemented with around 45 cu. inches of foam flotation, all of which resides just below the surfaced waterline. I'm not sure what the lead comes to and I would have to dismantle the boat to find out, but it has to be several pounds. Revel Gato's are tricky to get into stable trim on the surface. For all their size, the narrow tapering hull puts space for tweaking lead and foam at a premium. But then again I've read that the 1:1 boats were pretty squirrely in a beam sea and would roll heavily.

                                      Cylinder and foam adds up to a displacement of about 5.7 pounds- that's fairly close to Tom's cylinder. The hull will add weight, but that cancels out in the water as it's plastic and is the same density.

                                      To get your nine pounds figure, that must mean the hull weighs in at three pounds- if that's the case, then no wonder they're tricky to get stable!
