    I'm looking for a 72 scale Type XXI U-boat

Combat Models has a vacuformed kit for ~$75. You can see pictures of a kit in progress on this forum: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394805 just go 3/4 of the way down.

Rogue Subworks was going to offer a beautiful kit for ++$200 http://s181686668.onlinehome.us/phpB...p?f=56&t=10454 but the vendor is overseas and there are tariff issues that are driving the price much too high so Kevin has scrapped that kit from his line.

I am this close to ordering the Combat Models kit. But it will be six weeks after I place my order before I see it. So I thought I could afford a day or so to see if any of you knew of a better idea. This is one of my Grail kits and I don't know if I should wait for Revell or Moebius to produce it. I'll be 51 in a few months and I don't know how much time I have left to wait . . .

So. Do any of you know where I can find Type XXI U-boat in 72 scale?

You might want to, seriously, consider building from scratch. You will be way ahead of the game!

Well. I have the download for Type XXI U-Boat (Anatomy of the Ship) By Fritz Kohl, Eberhard Rossler. It's free now to anyone who wants it.

And I have Steve Neill's RC Submarines for Dumbasses. And spring will be here soon.

But I have no workshop and no garage. I have a covered back porch and a Dremel tool. That's it. Maybe just one step above "stone knives and bear skins."

I was planning on drawing up a design for photo etching the deck, and the drain and flood vents. There is a fellow I know who does custom PE sets.

        Let me think about it.

P.S. I fixed the link. Tom said the original link did not work.

Masses of tools is of little benefit when constructing a master for a sub hull. The main thing you require is a modicum of skill and plenty of patience.

            As someone here once said:

"If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub."

I fixed the link in the fourth post. You can now download [b]Anatomy of a Ship] for free. Beats the high price you would have to pay on eBay.

                Leelan,

I temporarily edited your download link. I believe that this book is still considered copyrighted material. We need to check into this. Also the download site appears to have a lot of 'anonymously' provided materials.

I can only find downloads for this book on illegitimate sources, I can't find a legitimate source for it.

Sorry, guys. I didn't know about this.

A month or so ago the flashdrive that I had all of my sub research on went belly up. So I got a new one and was trying to recover everything I could remember. When I got around to researching the type XXI that link showed up and I tried it. Shazam! I got it. All the diagrams and pictures of the real sub that I could want.

I had no idea it was illegitimate. I just knew that it worked.

                      Leelan,

Not a problem. Sometimes it isn't easy to tell if something like this is legit or not.

I know this is an old thread, but Oto Gerza makes a vacform 1:72 XXI kit:

Looks pretty good to me, if you can handle constructing vacform kits that is.. He has retractable planes and these fancy features on all of his VacBoots. Is there a "Vacform Sub Kit Assembly For Dummies" book available? I wonder how long it takes an experienced Vacform Modeler to assembly one of these things.. He also has a Type IX in 1]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC925vsU254[/video]
