Alantic Bow on a Robbe hull

    Jeff,
I`ve been doing some thinking and need some info for my refit of my Robbe U-47.First,does the Robbe boat have the Alantic bow already and if it doesn`t what would be increase in length that I would need to add to the existing bow.I have 1 unscaled drawing and it doesn`t give any measurements. If I decide to do this I will probably just mold the new bow with Milliput Putty. Also what year was this added to the production of the boats and was it done at all the production yards.I am also adding a few other goodies to the boat in my refit in addition to your deck.

    Hi TD,

Contracts for boats with the Atlantik bow were let in October 1941 with the first boats being delivered in August 1943. The increase in length was 13cm. So for a robbe in 1/40th scale, the increase in length would be 0.325cm!

The robbe kit is supposed to be a Type VIIB, so it shouldn't have the Atlantik bow.....but it's been a while since I have seen one of these boats.

Hope this helps....if you need more information, please let me know.

Thankyou for that info.Bye the way what are you doing up at this time of nite.Is there a difference in the deck length,in other words will your deck fit if I do these changes.I was going to try and make it a C version.I plan on changing the c/t also. The time line that you mentioned will determine which boat I will do and how the boat will be fitted out.Is it true that the commander of the boat had input as to how the boat was to be refitted. The reason is I`m asking is I`m not sure if I`m going to build a Mediteranian front boat or an Atlantic boat and you know that they were fitted out and painted different.

According to my calculations that.325 cm is less than 1/4 of an inch.Or am I wrong?

          TD,

Yup, 0.325cm comes out to be 0.12795 inches....about an eigth of an inch. You'd need some really anal modeler to inspect your boat with a ruler to see the difference.

The wood deck area is the same for either bow configuration...so you're good either way.

U-boat comamnders had some discretion in how their boats were fitted out, but not nearly as much as US Navy sub captains did. There still is enough variation to be found in these boats to allow you to build most anything that you are interested in.

            Jeff,
Thanks again for the info and yes I`m not that bad for details,it`s not worth the trouble for an 1/8 of an inch. But there will still be a few changes that will be noticeable.
