    Question about model kit

Ok, so lately I have been looking for an RC model kit of a u-boat that is relatively affordable and still of a good quality. I located a U-581 which says it includes the motors and stuff and says it is a fully working and diving submarine. My question is, does this kit have a remote control, and if not, how do you operate it?

    The kit is here- http://www.modelshipbuilding.com/U581.htm

    Re: Question about model kit

As I recall, there is no ability to control the sub while operating.....r/c or via wire tether. Never having actually used one, I do not know how it transistions from surface to dive to surface.

        ....you'll need to define "affordable".......

          Re: Question about model kit

I had this kit, and several of it's cousins, many years ago. They all work similarly. It's a foot-long plastic model with a battery compartment underneath for 3 "C" cell batteries. The motor is turned on and off via a switch. The rudder is set manually before release, and the stern dive planes are hooked to a linkage that is operated by a radar mast or pendulum. As the model submerges, the pitch or water flow moves the planes to "surface" attitude, thus making the model porpoise across the swimming pool.

Bottom line, a (very) slightly realistic pool toy. Remote control: none.

I'm not saying you couldn't re-engineer it to be R/C or tethered, but unless you HAVE to have that particular boat, it's probably not worth the effort.

          Like Jeff said, define "affordable"
