You can see where it needs to bend.


These rabbit slots will make the panel thin enough in the exact spots I need it to bend.
Here you can see how it turned out. Nearly perfect.






You can also see ins these photos that I cut up cardboard for a template for the vertical parting board for the first part of the mold.

Then I cut the panel for the vertical parting board.

I backed up the vertical board with pieces I used on my Ohio mold, so I didn't have to cut new supports.

Here you can see the lay down of the gel coat I colored gray so I can see the white gel coat that goes in for a pull casting. You can see the little bumps from the keys all the way around too.

I've seen drawing pins used for registration points, that's a cheap method, and they're easy to reuse being metal.

For small moulds, one method I found works well is to mould the first piece against a flat board, when that's cured dremel in some small dimples at intervals around the piece, prep for moulding, and that gives you perfect registration marks.

Laid up the fiberglass.
Removed the vertical parting board. Came off great.



Got he gelcoat put down on the other side after cleaning up the clay, waxing the new side of the mold and spraying on the PVA release.


Have to lay up the glass tomorrow night. Fortunately, this epoxy gel coat from Fibre Glast can set up overnight and doesn't require sanding before applying glass after this amount of time.

Finished up grassing both sides. I glassed over some cardboard to create some stands so the mold will stand by itself when casting the part.

After it cured I popped it out of the parting box. After cleaning up the clay it looks
Like it turned out really good.

Now I'll make the top side mold the same way.





Got the vertical parting board up with the clay and keys in place. Tomorrow I'll spray on the PVA release and then gel coat.

Yay! Mold turned out great, so did the first casting.
This shows it right after coming out of the mold--not even cleaned up edges yet, and it registers great.
