    USS Alligator?

I recently acquired this hull/deck from a fellow forum member, it measures 42" overall and is 4" diameter, and it's all hand made from alloy tube and sheet.

Having looked carefully at it and spent ages on Google search, the nearest prototype I could come up with to base a model on was the USS Alligator...what do think, guys? Anything else spring to mind?

if the pointy bit is the tail it could be a host of modern boats.
if it is the nose it could become an alligator.

but why not ask the one who sold it to you ?

      Hi Ronald,

The pointy bit(technical term, is it?)can be either end really. The chap that built it just built as it is, it wasn't based on anything special, he just fancied building something with a pointy end(technical term again)for something to do at his place of work one day.

Looks a bit chunky, aluminium being about twice the density of GRP and three times that of most plastics- watch you don't end up with a boat that rolls like Humpty Dumpty.

I should have said that the centre section can have either two pointed ends or two rounded ends or any combination, which increases the choice of prototype by quite a bit I think. I can also have the centre section in any length, which further increases the choice.

            I've confused myself now...

Whatever the subject you want to base it on, it looks like a lot of work to me, and in my opinion this is a project better suited to someone with a workshop.

Well, it will certainly be a challenge Andy..but it's a long way down the 'to do' list.

                  POINTY SUBS -

Lodner Phillips' boats were pointy like that - as was the confederate's Pioneer.
