Thought you may be interested to see my interpretation on the Cold War CONFORM Concept design, it's based on a picture in a book I found on the internet. It's a converted Trumpeter Seawolf kit, with a lot of good old modeller's licence applied.

The new top deck unit was cut from the deck of an old Trumpeter Kilo and subsequently chopped, joined and filled. I had the alter the Seawolf deck a bit to get things to fit properly, but I think it looks reasonable.

Question...what colour scheme do you guys think the CONFORM boats would have been painted in? Black all over, or black topsides with red anti foul below water? Any ideas anywhere?

I would venture on saying that for the time period that that boat would have been built (post sturgeon, and in the stead of the LAs) it would have been red bottom and black top.

Thanks Joel, guess I'll go with that...after all, who's to say it's wrong? One advantage of building a boat that was never built in full size...

Nuke, you can't really say that the CONFORM project was exactly attractive...and certainly not sexy!

She's nearly ready for trimming, ballasting and initial sea trials now, still unpainted as yet, but almost there. I have to make up two little brackets to locate the wtc in it's position in the hull, and two more little brackets to secure the battery pack out in the free flood area and she's about done. I'm aiming to have her ready for the next Dive In at Brockwell Lido...if all goes well.

Isn't it annoying when you get everything installed internally, switch the power on, fix the deck down...and discover that you've got the rudder servo controlling the rear 'planes and the rear 'planes servo controlling the rudder....





I altered the wtc, made it longer so as I could fit the battery pack internally, just made a resin joiner and cyano'ed it all together.

All is now sorted and everything works as it should. Sea trials in the domestic test tank(AKA 'the bath')should be conducted later today.

Done and dusted, I'm hoping to be able to persuade the paintmeister in the workshops at work tomorrow to spray it for me. I think I'll go for Joel's advice and go for red undersides and black topsides, with various deck details picked out in white or silver.

Well, she's finally got her bum wet...bit nose heavy still, but nothing too serious. Important thing is that the wtc is bone dry, I left her in the bath for three hours weighted down and there was not a drop of water inside her.

Now thats a water test! Id be afraid to leave mine under for that long. Must be water tight , for now.
