Dave, I have been having problems with my SL-8 Sombra labs reciever. First it doesnt work with the Caswell/Mcleod ADF (older version). Now I find out that it wont work with the Subtek subsafe 2 failsafe. What Failsafe will work with it? If anyone knows it would be you.

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
The only failsafe I have used with my SL8 R/X is the one in the Subtech SES-3 electronic switch.
I can not remember having any problems with it.
I know the SL8 has a MPD built into the R/X itself, and if I recall can be set for all channels.
You do need the programing card to do this though from Sombra.
It is not very inexpencive. Hope this helps. BD.sigpic"Eat your pudding Mr Land"

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
Yep , I ordered one this morning, Thanks. Can you help me with another issue. I purchased a APC from Precision pattern and it does the same thing that the Subtek APC-4 does. When you turn on the drive motors the servo attached to the APC starts to glitch heavily which of course causes the planes to glitch. the faster you go the worse it gets. If you put the APC on the table outside and away from the WTC then its rock steady. But anywhere inside the WTC forget it. The Caswell ADF doesnt have this problem. Thanks in advance.

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
This smacks of EFI interference. Your motor should have 3 capacitors - 1 between each terminal and the case and 1 between the 2 terminals. And it's always a good idea to have a wire connecting the motor case to battery ground.

Thanks Skip, yes I do have the capacitors but I dont have the case to batt. ground. If you think that this is possibly the culprit then I will address that next.

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
I've seen where connecting the case to ground helps big time.....I've seen motors that only needed 1 capacitor.....and everything in between.
Another area to check is voltage supply to the RX. Check the voltage available at the RX both with the motor off and running. Any variation at all is a no-no.

I will check that, thats all good info. I do have a Dimmensions Engineering park BEC on it but I will check it anyway. Good Stuff!

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
Last night I installed the ground wire to the case of the motor from the ground side of the battery. No change. I have yet to check voltage though.

Re: Sombra labs SL-8 incompatability
If you have one of Kevins early units it need a program update to work with the Sombra. There should be a small white rectangle in the corner with writing on it. If it says something like ADC -a, it is the old version, it should read ADC-b. Kevin will update it for you if you send it to him.
