    But I'm talkin'bout Shaft...

Actually, I'm talking about the intermediate shaft that on one end connects to your motor axle stub , passes thru the "prop shaft" seal into the wet, and on the other end is fitted with a dogbone connector or gear box sprocket. Do you fellows fabricate these or is there a vendor source?

I use polished and ground stainless steel shaft that I buy from McMaster-Carr, cut to length, etc.

      Kerry,
Mikes Sub Works,Casswell, or other boat parts suppliers carry shafting. You can get it threaded if you like also. U joint couplings are available from Dumas-dogbone type, Graupner, Raebosh or if I remember the correct name-Power Driveline Products. You might see if Kevin at Rough Subworks can help out.

Thanks for the replies gents. I can find raw stock, but boring out one end to slip over the motor shaft is beyond my workshop. I'll keep looking.

          Hi Kerry,
Just use a 1/1 coupler to connect the motor to the shaft.
You can buy them in different sizes or make one out of brass.
It is very hard to machine or drill stainless. BD.

              Kerry,
If you want a ridgid coupling, what size is the motor shaft and the prop shaft??? I'll make you one with stainless set screws---NO CHARGE!

                Frank, you are too much.
But remember, no good deed goes unpunished-I need two.
All this for a custom WTC meeting the unique demands of the big DeBoer Seaview.
The motors are Graupner 600BB Turbo, which has the standard 3.17mm / 1/8" shaft.
I would need to connect those to a 3/16" dia. intermediate shaft passing thru the bulkhead to a wetside 3/16" dogbone connector.
Hopefully I can somehow return the favor at the SubRegatta?

Does the SubCommittee rock or what?

                  Re: But I'm talkin'bout Shaft...

How long does the 3/16'' shaft need to be??? I have shafting and can make up the length you need. Are you wanting to use Dumas dog bone style couplings???/ If so I can supply them also with the shafting. I'll groove the socket end for a o ring retainer for the dogbone. If you want to call me 740-685-5758, 740-680-2116--cell Mikes subworks sells tubes with bushings and seals for going through bulkheads for drive shafts. Work great!
