    Books, Reference Material ?

I've been into 'static' modeling for the past 30 years and want to take the plunge (no pun intended) into RC (preferably small scale, 1/72nd). The scale (static) modeling hobby has a ton of reference books and DVD describing technique, etc.

After 2 days of searching on the web I was only able to find one book (on Amazon) which is dated having been published in 1996.

So, where does a complete beginner go for books or (building) reference sources?

    Any assistance will be appreciated!

    Regards,

Have you tried looking through the book section? There are tons of reviews of various books you may find useful.

I would agree, Scott. The SCR has taught hundreds of r/c submariners how to build and drive their boats.

Wow, those are some classic covers!

          Re: Books, Reference Material ?

I have joined the SubCommittee: rec'd my first (March) issue this week and immediately ordered back issues. Today I found a book (ordered it) published by Traplett titled Simply Model Submarines. I started reading the 'neewbie' article in the current issue (Type VII) and got 'lost' on several sections; hence the need (I feel) for some basic books that I can study.

            JP,

There are only two other book sources on r/c subs that I am aware of:

"Model Submarine Technology" by Norbert Bruggen. I've not read it but I understand it is comprehensive and can get pretty technical. Norbert is a highly accomplished model submariner. You can buy it through Amazon.

"RC Submarine Modeling for Dumb A**es" by Steve Neill. This is a CD-Rom photo tutorial of Steve's scratch building projects. You can learn more about it here: http://www.sneillfx.com/page23.
