engel tank question

for my robbe U47 i am going to get a engel tank for it and was wondering
the 500 size tank seems best from the dimentions
I was also thinking of getting a custom made 600 size tank for it

for the tank size the small the tank the more weight ill need too add i guess
so the 600 seems a good size
the 750 is too big and involves me hacking the tray apart way too much and i dont want to attempt it

for operation of the tank the control that you get for it that plugs into the radio
"SBTS" that he also sells does that allow me to partially fill the tank or does it fill untill the motor stops?????? the info isnt very specific

i want to be able to have the sub ride quite high in the water for surface stuff and lower its freeboard as i see fit untill it submerges

i guess im asking is the SBTS controller proportanal

500ml is only good enough

500ml is only good enough for decks awash trim. The 750ml will get you closer to a scale waterline, but 1000ml is required for a true scale waterline.

A modeller in Germany had 1L Engel tank custom made for his boat. Other alternatives are placing additional ballast tanks outside of the existing WTC. Either saddle tanks or small tanks forward and aft,and then using a smaller piston tank within the WTC.

I would get the 750

I would get the 750 ml tank as a minimum, the extra work to the tray is minmal (or you may want to get a replacement aluminum tray from Pirana Modellbeau, or make your own) The SBTS controller (together with the XP tank) is the proportional one but only over the last 125ml. You wont be able to stop the tank anywhere between empty and 625ml. The BTS controller will allow you to take on any amount of water you want.

pay attention to your voltages, make sure what you get will work with your model. The 2 links you have posted show a 6V BTS and a 12V Tank.

Most people who make the u47 seem to change the 2 drive motors as they seem to be inefficient. If your changing them to 12v motors you may want to get 12v ballast gear as well.

the motors are really bad they get very hot in the sub and kill the batteries quite fast i checked the alignment of the shafts and all that and they are fine its just crappy motors

any suggestions on new motors in either 6v or 12 volt ?
there is almost zero r/c boat stuff here i usually end up having it shipped in from vancouver

on my engelized u47, i used two graupner speed 400 6v motors with 3:1 planetary gearboxes.

both can be found at hobby-lobby, end up being about $100 for the set...

You'll need gearboxes for speed 400's (££££).

Electronize do some nice low draw 545 motors which will sort you out nicely, and will slot right in with no modification to the rack. Not expensive either.

I put a engel tank in my robbe u47, the change in internal pressure that the tank creates really needs the joiner and screw to be remade stronger. You need a real tight join to stop it leaking.

i solved the pressure problem by putting a oversized o ring on it
i was able to pressurize the compartment to almost 15 psi according to the tire gauge we hooked up to it
any o ring business will carry a thicker o ring that you can use
and they only cost about 75 cents on average

for the motors i think im going to go with the 500e suggested earlier as they seem a quality motor that runs on variable voltages

cost seems resonable as well 10 bucks a motor
