    New 123 batteries.

I am going to be trying a new type of battery in my FS-1.
It is a Lithium Ion A123 Nanophosphate battery.
This is fairly new technology for the R/C community.
The batteries are rated at 3.3V each, can supply over 60 amps of continus power, and are rated at 2300MA.
They are about $18 each, but I will only need two.
They will require a new charger made for the 123 cells.
I am hoping that the 70x28MM size will fit nicely under my two power cylinders in its own battery tube. This is my plan anyway. BD.

      Well I did not end

Well I did not end up using them. It turned out I changed my design and they would not fit in the sub so I used nicads. I do think they are very promissing. The only thing is I believe the largest capacity is 2300MA.
You would have to double them up for more run time. BD.

I had a gentlemen ask me on another forum.
            Thanks

PS, I got my second fittings kit and two seaviews on ebay for $50
I will be getting my WTC soon.

Actually the 123 batteries are rated at 3.2 volts per cell.
              I purchased mine from batteryspace.

I believe Steve is running Lithium poly. My cylinder is different than the production unit that Steve has. I have battery tubes with Lithium Ion computer batteries. Now I will try the 123's. BD.

                LiFePO4 Rechargeable Cell: 26650 Cell

                LiFePO4 Rechargeable Cell: 26650 Cell 3.2V 3400 mAh, 17A Rate

This is the spec on my batteries which is the nominal voltage.

Normally batteries are rated at there nominal voltage not there max voltage. At least this is what I have been told.
                But who knew!!

                  Here are the A123 cells

Here are the A123 cells and the battery cylinder I made up for my 212A.
The large cells are 3400MA and the smaller ones are 1300MA.
The battery in front is a standard sub-C nicad. BD.

                      Re: New 123 batteries.

A123 batteries are THE big ticket in RC electric aircraft nowadays. The power density of Lipos (weight vs capacity) with the robustness of Nicads.

I have had great success with my 123's so far.
I like them a lot!! BD.
