New Disney Nautilus

Disney announced a 1/96 scale finished resin kit for release in March 2004 for the 50th aniv of 20k Leagues under the Sea. It will be available in the Disney catalog at that time. It's supposed to be 22 inches long and will/may have inside lighting...........Price unannounced......It is supposed to be the most accurate one yet, down to the exact number of rivets...........

I can vouch for the

I can vouch for the authenticity, as I know that the master was constructed directly from AutoCad drawings of the actual filming miniature. The master patterns were cut directly from these drawings (by laser, I think), and then assembled like a kit.

The master modeller is a die-hard Disney Nautilus fan and put a lot of his own personal projects on hold so that he could complete this project for Disney in a very limited amount of time.

I hope like heck that it'll be priced well... Surely it will be an excellent feature piece for any 20K fan.

I'd be the first in line, for sure.

I'd tend to guess that they'd be pretty pricey, as they are the result of hundreds of hours of measurement and inputting. Maybe it would be cheaper to buy a completed model from him...

Well I got too tired of waiting for a Nautilus model so I designed and produced one myself, and its big, 36 inches.

If they keep the pricing

If they keep the pricing in the low hundreds (under $500), I think that they'll get a lot of interest. That would fall into line with some of the other replicas out there in this size range.

This one, of course, if far more accurate than anything else out there right now...

The cardstock Nautilus is definitely a very neat model, and a great conversation piece.

I suppose you've got to take into consideration that there are a lot of die-hard Nautilus fans out there willing to shuck the bucks for an ultra accurate version in larger scale.

I've built Sci-Fi's and TI's 31" kits, and both are excellent quality and very close in accuracy to the Disney film. There's nothing quite like being able to look into the wheelhouse and see the wheel where Nemo piloted the Nautilus in his quest for vengeance!

The paper model is a great project, and I am, quite frankly, in awe of your skillsl required to construct the Nautilus completely from paper, but you can't really compare your paper kit to a fully detailed resin one. They are two completely separate entities, appealing to two different kinds of people.

Just my thoughts...

all good points on paper vs plastic vs resin.

could never afford resin, and quite frankly its my lack of skill that got me hooked on paper. I can't paint to save my life. With the paper, it's painted before I start.

well great news then, this replica Figurine to be offered by the Walt Disney Gallery will be totally painted as well as lighted...i'm quite anxious to get one myself... length total is 22 1/4" long making it exactly 1/96 scale not too big and not too small .... just right,I think!

Keep in mind that this figurine is a first of it's kind.Disney has never actually sold a replica of the Nautilus themselves,this is quite an undertaking for a project. In order to do this submarine,no Disney plans were used. This model came about using only reference obtained through the years 9 or so for me and alot more so for Rich,to make the drawings to make the patterns to build this Nautilus replica. I strongly feel everyone who is a fan of the Nautilus will love this one!
