Nichimo I-19 Conversion

Howdy,

Looking for info on converting the Nichimo I-19 to R/C. Anyone out there who has done this? Please drop me a line, can trade plans/etc. for other boats in exchange.

i have the nichino I-19

i have the nichino I-19 and it as a very thin sub model. also some 200 scale destroyers

and even though it is made for a motor and battery -i wonder how fine of work you would like to do.

i bought it after completeing a nichimo yamato. the yamato was a good candidate for a new r/c ship modeler. i still have it and after the photo etch parts and some scratch building turned out to be a nice ship.

i found the nichimo kits at internet hobbies.

i bought to investigate the to possibilities of conversion, and it is a good candidate for r/c sconversion.

although i have not converted this one yet i have converted the i401 from doyusha, witch is a smaller boat.

i hope that you will share notes and pics of your work.

good news cirrus has just come out with a new small servo.
this servo will now allow me to complete the 1]

Have you made much progress on your conversion?

I have an Academy IX U-boat Iwhich 'm planning to convert to radio control. I have been wondering what the best way to handle the battery/speed-control would be.

I've made some progress, mostly

I've made some progress, mostly with mods to the lower hull to clear some space. This boat is tight on space, very narrow.

Have a Novak Xxtra receiver, a mini-speed control and a couple pico servos all roughed in. Going to attempt to use the existing driveline, modified the kit "stuffing box" to allow for regular petro-jelly injections.

I modified the kit bow plane setup to be controllable, and separated the upper hull in this area. Attached the bow section to the lower hull, leaving the rest to be removable.

With some mods to the battery pack, I was actually able to fit the pack from my Albacore (now deceased) into the lower hull. I prefer to find something smaller. Anyone use Li-ion batteries, or am I just asking for trouble??

Do I have pictures? Yes, I've been keeping a rough diary as I go along.

Unfortunately, I will be out of commission for the next month, so the boat will be on hold.

1) servo I like several all Cirrus
CS4.9 molecular (very pricey)
CS-10BB
CS20-BB
in that order
2) receiver Novac XXTRA (5 channel no crystal)
3) speed controller (I like two)
Airtronics ES-01 w/reverse
Team Orion Flash Micro w/reverse and water proof
4) sub leverer Sub Tech APC-4
5) batteries Ni-Mh AAA, AA or N-size 650-2000mah
6) motors just small and cheap ones

I hope that this helps all the small sub builders out there.
I hope to see pictures of the subs as they are constructed.

for Cirrus I get them from Sheldon Hobbies
and Orion it's Tower Hobbies.
Most of the items can be bought at Tower.
