Can you use a bottle rocket as sort of an emergency surfacing system to blow water out of the ballast tank ? I read somewhere that real life subs use hydrazine gas generators as ESS.

This makes me think of
This makes me think of people putting the candy mentos in soda
pop and the extreme gas release from it. Or the fizz from alkaselzer
medicine when they are droped in water. The bubbles might not make
a sunk sub float but might give a short duration sub location indicator.

One of the major reasons
One of the major reasons for sunk R/C subs is that they have become entangled in something. Blowing MBTs again (assuming that a failsafe has already tried) won't help that. What is needed is a buoy to be released. Just copy what the Silent Service has incorporated based on lessons learned.
BTW, MBTs on 1:1 boats are blown with pressurized air only.

I agree ,has happened to
I agree ,has happened to me but i just expel a small amount of air to show where its located and hop in.
And a bouy would be nice even considered it years ago but have never installed one.
Once it was quite deep ,entangled in the weeds and I barley got her back!
So I have on the ways a sub recovery locator vessel with onboard rotatting camara, tethered of course to find a Lady Down.

Howdy - I recall Bud
Howdy - I recall Bud Lederer using a very small fishing bobber that was attached to a spool of string under a deck hatch. The deck hatch was spring loaded to a second fail safe servo system. If the first fail safe system did not bring up the boat by blowing tanks, the second one would become operational in 10 min. time, deploying this fishing bobber on 40 ft of line. As I recall this was on his 1/32 scale Gato class boat (close to 10Ft. long) I'm sure he listed in the menbership listing. Look under N.J. Give him a call I'm sure he be happy to tell you all about it and how he built it. He's a neat guy and one of the early fathers of this hobby. Best Wishes on your project. ..... Mike Dory

Thanks Mike for the lead
Thanks Mike for the lead on Bud. His bouy system sounds like a good approach. I'll contact him.

That's Dave Forrest. He's a member and posts on here as 'Davy'.
The pingers are well worthwhile if you sail in hostile waters. You will need to build a hydrophone in order to track your sub underwater, but Dave has details of how to do this.
I think pingers are a better solution than a buoy, as the latter can get entangled in the same weeds your boat did, then you're really sunk (pun intended!).

I am David Santivanez ,not D. Forrest .
The Sub rescue sub will have a Marcum 560 unit that has a rotating camara head that operates by remote and not only that but has on screen depth in tenths of a ft and a compass that indicates the direction the camara is pointed! Along with batery indicator and water temp.
Shuold be alot of fun to use even to search the botom with hydraulic arms and blower.I might add a metal detector and passive sonar, lights ect.
I will post the build.

Well what about using vegetable
Well what about using vegetable dye or oil released from a small resevoir as a marker to where you sub is?

A dye could drift away
A dye could drift away from the sub sunk location. Something tethered or emanating from the boat is best.
