    OTW 1/32 scale S-Class HMS Shakespeare

    To continue my building ethic of each model NEEDS to be more difficult & challenging than the previous one, I've gone and started building OTW's 1/32 scale S-Class submarine. As the kit is of the Group 3 types of S-Class I've also chosen HMS Shakespeare as my subject.

    This is going to be a long term project of mine, so this thread may drag on a bit.............

    Oh yeah, I have every intention of setting up working torpedoes with this build..................eventually. I'm sure the guys from Canberra could help me with that.

      Still cutting holes. I've done 80 so there's about 186 to go.........I think....

          I've finished cutting all of

          I've finished cutting all of the limber holes and glued the beautiful brass decks to the casement with epoxy.







          So now, I'm mucking around with some extra detail on the bridge.

                  After priming all of the

                  After priming all of the decks and hull, I thought I'd start fitting the stern dive planes and rudder.



                  So that I can dismantle everything for servicing I've added a grub screw to the rudder and its post.



                  Then I got started on the stanchions and rails for the gun decks.



                  Here's how the two hull sections seperate. I have yet to set up a nice, easy fastening system for these two halves......but I've got loads of ideas....



                  .....then I've added some of the details I purchased from Float A Boat here in Australia. 3 voice pipes and the ship's wheel. I've seen the wheel in archive photos.

                      Now that I'm on 2

                      Now that I'm on 2 months leave (doctor's orders) I might as well get back to detailing HMS Shakespeare.
                      I've finally done the brass hand rails up the sides of the conning tower and tomorrow I'll start on the forward torpedo doors and bulkhead.

                          My S-Class attracted a lot

                          My S-Class attracted a lot of attention at the recent Sydney Model Boat Show..



                          The guy in the vest in this pic actually has a friend who served on HMS Shakespeare and we talked at length about her patrols and the shell damage to the conning tower......



                          Since the show I've spent some time working on weathering her, while I'm waiting for the diving system..
