I am finally starting on my OTW TypeVIIC boat, and have ordered the wintergarten upgrade and schnorkel deck. My question is was the "Atlantik Bow" added at the same time as the new wintergarten or was it done in stages? In other words if I show up at the regatta with the new wintergarten added without the atlantic bow will I be dismissed from participation?

The "Atlantik Bow" was not
The "Atlantik Bow" was not something added to a Type VIIC during a refit. This was a design change that went into effect with the change to new construction.....the Type VIIC/41 as of July 1941.
A number of boats without the Atlantik bow had the Wintergarten of "Bridge Conversion II" added during a refit, so you should not find anyone arguing that you've built a boat that did not exist.

Well, Bridge Conversion II (Turm
Well, Bridge Conversion II (Turm II) would include U-237 and U-955.....
I also should mention that depending on the gun used for the lower Wintergarten (the Wintergartne proper), Bridge Conversion IV (Turm IV) would look the same. Turm II had a LC30/37 and Turm IV had the quad mount.
Since Turm IV ended up being the most common, that's a lot of boats! A quick search seems to indicate that the U-392 would be an example with Turm IV and no Atlantik bow.

OTW type VII
Where did you get the schnorkel deck and wintergarden upgrade, from OTW in ENGLAND or is there a states side source, and afraid to ask, what are they going for? I have a set of wood templates for the OTW type VII flood holes, made by Frank RYAN (sub-concepts) if you would like to borrow, just pay shipping. Keith.

I agree with Jeff, the
I agree with Jeff, the Atlantic bow was the outwardly visible feature of the Type VIIc/41. So if you are stickler for accuracy(I would be given the investment so far), I would model a refitted VIIc.
My addition to this thread stems from my own research in deciding the version of type 7c I will build..
Not all 7C's received a schnorkel. Not all(a few) type 7c's recieved the larger type 7c/41 Wintergarden. BUT one can safely assume that if a standard 7c had a schnorkel, it most likely had the large wintergarden. The wintergarden tower is not a particular 7c/41 design feature. It's just that by 1943 when they were being launched, they were incorporated with the newer tower omitting the 88cm deck gun. Another feature are the life raft canisters near the bow of the type 7c/41. Some 7c's received these as well, sometimes just one or three or four.
The larger wintergarden is Turmumbau IV, usually with two-twin mounted 20mm's and one 37mm on the lower part. The 37mm was often replaced with a quad 20mm mount, based on the availability of the weapons at the time of fitting/refit and the captain's preference.
Turmumbau I was the Mediterranean tower, TurmumbauII was two 20mm c/38's on a stepped tower(an interim solution), Turmumbau III was mainly for the Type 7d's(minelayers).
The best thing is to research a type 7 hull. A good resource is UBoats.net, which gives you a list of uboats and those fitted with schnorkels. Good luck!! Give us pictures of it..
