help...losing servo power when connecting the speed control

ok, so this is a new one on me. anyone else have this issue?

using a thor speed control w/ built in bec.

when the speed control is installed, the motor works fine, but i lose power to the servos. when i switch to a batter pack to power the receiver, i regain servo control. obviously i dont want to have to use both power sources...

    ideas?

    I had a different brand

I had a different brand of ESC with a battery eliminator circuit (BEC) , but it apparently didn't put out enough power to run all the servos. I wound up installing a separate BEC (SubTec) running off my main battery to power the receiver and that solved the problem. I don't know if that's your issue, but it might be worth a try!

BTW - many thanks for providing the cakes for the SubRegatta, Erich! They made for a nice treat after the Saturday evening SubSeminar and after the awards on Sunday!

        First question is what is

First question is what is your battery voltage? If it's 7.2 or less, there's your problem. The BEC that's used is not a low drop out version (at least that's what I've seen) and that means it needs to be fed at least 8 volts to be able to supply a rock steady 5 volt output.

If you decide to go with a separate BEC, make sure you disconnect the red (+) wire from your RX connector.

The fact that it "has been sitting for a long time" should have no effect on it. It's all electronic.

          that could be it then.

that could be it then. its a 7.2v pack. ill wire up another one and crank it up to 14.4 and see if that works
