Ahh I will say it

Ahh I will say it is going to be a pool toy for us big boys.
I do want to do an NR-1 ( among thousands of other models) but I am still building the rewuired skills base I would like to have for that so it would get the detail it deserves.

Got her painted. Now the question I have for all of you is....
Do they really have all the white boxes and such painted on them or is that stuff just "parade dress"
Also does any one have so good photos they could post of them and the draft markings?

The white markings you are

The white markings you are talking about are done on launching. That is why I call it "Parade Dress". Sometime after that, they are removed for combat patrol.
It is not done on all the openings by any means. Just a few. Pictures of this are easy to find on Google.

I think the white markings add a great deal of 'eye candy' to these boats.

Starting to make some head

Starting to make some head way on my little Alfa project again.
I now started making the rudder master.
First I cut out two blocks of MDF and then painted one side of one of the MDF block blue. In the pictures i used a piece of particle board so you get the idea.



I did this to provide me a permanent center line on my master regardless how how much I sand the piece. This is extremely useful when trying to create a piece that is symmetrical.

Next I cut out the picture of the rudder i wanted to create. The real rudder has a much larger base where it flares into the hull. This of course would be ridiculous on a full flying rudder so I trimmed it down a bit.



Here you can see the indexing line I mentioned.



I then transferd over the my desired ellipses for the shape and hit the belt sander. After a little bit of time on the belt and some hand sanding I hit it with primer and got this.



And here is how it looks on the boat.



Note the master is a bit over sized to compensate for the shrinkage that will happen with the resin and tin based rubber I am using for the master mold.

Next I will clean up the edges of the rudder and scribe in the details after another layer or 2 of primer.
I will then redo the masters for the stern planes to include a independently cast control plane.

I wonder if the imbalance

I wonder if the imbalance between the full flying configuration and standard rudder arrangement at the top will make the boat roll more on turns?

I would not think so.

I would not think so. But I suppose how I weight the boat will make a big differnce. The boat previously had a full flying rudder on it when I recieved it and I never saw an issue.

Well I finished making the rudder and re doing the stern planes. Then I started reviewing pictures and Wayne Freys book and noticed a discrepency between my plans and the real thing. The lower rudder is much larger then the plan I was using. All I have to do is go back and fix this and the package will be ready for mold making.

Well I have been pulling

Well I have been pulling these out of the molds like clock work now. Had a few learning experiences and these things are ready to go. Im selling them for 35 as set if you are interested.
