Brand new Futaba T4 EXA TX playing up!!

    Hello all,

Maybe someone can give me a list of things to think about. I just bought a new Transmitter the other day. A Futaba T 4EXA. (36mhz) A 4 channel computer radio. Very nice. But ever since I bought it it has not been all that reliable.

My WTC features a Hitec HS-555 4 channel rec. Often this reciever simply does not pick up a signal. I've looked at the back chrystal connections can't see anything wrong there. I have had the same problem on my other WTC. So I'm sure it's not a dud chrystal. I would seem highly unlikely that it's the new radio's fault. When it does decide to work , it works beautifully. I'm assuming that there's interference somewhere.

Can anybody give me any suggestions? If you can give me ideas then I can start a process of elimination.

    regards,

    David H

    36 Mhz does not sound

36 Mhz does not sound all that familiar. typo ?
    in europe we use 35Mhz.

    but anyway :
are the transmitter and receiver crystal from the same
    vendor ?

same coding (PCM/PPM/whatever) in both receiver and transmitter ?

fishy batteries in the transmitter ? (but this would more likely
give interruptions after while instead of directly)

no fancy spread spectrum techniques in the transmitter ?

loose/bad connection to antenna of transmitter (afaik a weak spot in
    robbe/futaba transmitters),

      He's in Australia, not Europe,

He's in Australia, not Europe, hence the "weird" frequency. But then again, I don't know what frequency they use down under, so maybe it is a typo...

David, are you sure it's not the transmitter? Do you have other receivers or transmitters so you may eliminate different components? If so, just swap out the crystal, receiver, or transmitter one at a time and see what happens. Are you using a BEC ESC or do you have a separate receiver battery? Just start swapping out things one by one to see if they make a difference. I would start with switching the receiver or crystal first though. Of course, making sure the receiver and crystal are from the same manufacturer, etc. (as raalst has already suggested) should be checked too.

        Thanks guys,

        36 Mhz is what

        Thanks guys,

36 Mhz is what we use in Aust. This is the only time it's gone "weird" on me.

I will try all these different things. It could be that there is a mix of chrystals. I'm still reluctant to believe it's the TX since it is barely a week old. As I said, sometimes it works beautifully ,but not all the time...
