    Ballast tank baffle design.

    Hello all,

I build out of Acrylic. (Pump boats) My first WTC works a treat. No baffles. I built my second WTC with two baffles and now 2 years later I have cracks all along where they join up to the pressure hull. I'm rebuilding the ballast tank section and considering leaving them out

Question. Are they really worth the extra effort? Is the slosh reduction factor really make a difference? I don't think this is a design aspect much touched upon.

If I do make baffles I will have them glued up in as few places as possible.

    regards,

    I think they are worth

I think they are worth putting in. (I always do now) They are particularly important for pumped pressure tanks where there is always an air space in the tank.

Try tilting a half full bottle if you need convincing.

The baffles don't need to be stuck to the tank walls either. Small clearance gaps are needed anyway.

So I would say "keep them."
