    Suitable Servo Horns for WTC

What do you use that works best from your experience?

How do you adapt the servo horn to slide nice and smoothly thru the 1/16"
WTC bulkhead seal opening? And how do you accomplish the servo horn hook-up with the 1/16" rod?

I have one Linear Drive by Sullivan left which I'd love to use but it's too "clunky" for WTC placement.

    Thanks,

    Brian

    There is a company called

There is a company called Jomar tha makes a linear conversion for the Futuba servos. Many of the builders here use them, including me.
Look at the link here :
EMS Linear Servo Conversion Kit for Futaba S-148 and S-3151 Servos The Electronic Model Systems Linear Servo Conversion Kit with Ball Bearing for the Futaba S-148 and S-3151 Servos. Awarded U.S. Patent 7,243,562. CLICK FOR MORE DETAILS $12.95 Configuration 1 Add To Cart Futaba S-148 Servo Weight – 1.6 Oz. / 44.4 gram. Torque – … Read More "EMS LINEAR SERVO CONVERSION"

The servos shown to be converted are common and easy to get.
    Hope this helps

      You could always ditch the

You could always ditch the WTC bulkhead seals and go with something that is far less prone to leaking and doesn't require a nearly perfect linear motion:

I use these bellows on my custom-build Seehund dive module. These will likely never leak since there is no rod-to-seal motion. The bellows expands and collapses as necessary to handle the motion of the pushrod.

        Wayne / Jeff,
Wow, I just didn't know about that new little new gadget: the Futaba linear servo converter. After a long hiatus from the hobby I see there are quite a few new gadgets out there for us bubbleheads.
Since I have to buy servos anyway and rather not undo the bulkhead seals I'll go with the adapters.
The bellows is an excellent option though if I were to build my own WTC from scratch, for the next sub perhaps.

        Thank you guys,

        Brian

            Dave,

How do those work? I've not seen them before.
            Warm regards,

              Paul,

              Paul,

I use those nice items as well. They're called a "Scotch yoke". I've created an animated GIF image showing how it works when used on a servo. Click on the image below to launch the animated image:

<< in the name of full disclosure, the above GIF is a modified version of the one found on the wikepedia page for the Sctoch yoke and is used/modified based on the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 License. >>

I like these much better than the LineDrives because the yoke is a more robust device and you won't have to worry about the LineDrive cable breaking. (I've had several do that)

              -enjoy,

              Jeff
