    Best radio for Subs

I want to start shopping for a radio for my Akula and looking for feedback. Although a 4 or 5 channel will do I'd like to have more options like perhaps 8-9 channels for future projects. So far, I've been recommeded two, both w/ pros and cons: F-14 Robbe Navy and the Futaba DX 7 radio, different technologies bit the latter gives you cutting edge, etc.
Which would you recommend and what works well for you?

    Thanks,
    Brian

      Brian,

      Is that a Futaba DX

      Brian,

Is that a Futaba DX 7 or a Spektrum DX 7? I'm not sure what model Futaba that might be, but if it is the Spektrum radio do *not* get it for r/c sub use. The 2.4GHz signal does not penetrate the water....which means that you would have no sub-surface control of the sub.

Jee, thanks Jeff for the advise, I had been very tempted for such technology but I guess not everything cutting-edge is good for our type of application.

          Dave,

Is it reliable and sane quality as Futaba ? Does it work w/ Futaba sevos?

          Thanks,

There are a number of vendors that re-sell the Polk Tracker radios. You may also want to check out Mike's Subworks and Dark Horse Models as they also carry those radios.

Quite a number of SubCommittee folks have either the Tracker II or Tracker III radios and have a lot of good things to say about them.

Futaba servos are reported to work just fine.

I had one and got rid of it ,I could not get rid of the glitches! And at the last fun run Nuke power had alot of trouble with his.I stick with Futaba,JR radios that will always be around and have the best reputations. The Polk unit is being dicontinued.

Well, to be fair.....it looks like all r/c vendors are rapidly moving along the path to 2.4GHz for both air and ground use. If folks actually do stop making radios in the 75MHz band, then all of us are going to have problems buying any new radio.

I did read on the Polk Hobby site that they were/are looking to retain the 75MHz systems for surface and sub-surface use. It would be nice if this could be confirmed as still the case.

                              What is with these posts

What is with these posts about glitch problems with the Tracker III? I have one on order, and now I am wondering if I made a mistake... I thought this was a good sub Tx/Rx setup. I like the idea of not screwing around with the crystals. What if your running your sub alone somewhere and not with other RC boaters...have people had this glitch problem and loss of sync with the Seeker receiver when they are operating alone and not around other RCers?

I had to order the 8 channel set and an additional 6 channel Seeker, because the 8 channel will not fit in my WTC. An airplane with a 2.4Ghz radio setup is looking to be less of a headache than a submarine every day lol.

Seems like I recall the circumstances for the Tracker III problems being when there are a group of people running boats together and indoors at that.
