Custom Replicas Nautilus Completed!

Finally! Plugging away a bit here, a bit there... it took about six months, but she's finally completed:

The model has four circuits: Interior Lights, Exterior Floodlights, Green Attack Lights, and Propulsion Screw. Lighting is full LED throughout. I went for more warm lights in the salon through the use of a combination of white and yellow LEDs there.

80% complete salon interior with full cast crew. Salon parts were 100% scratch built aside from the crewmembers. All hatches are functional and have ladders descending into the sub.

I got more done on

I got more done on the Water Effects Lighting Unit for this model. This is the middle section that I hope replicas the look of water rippling from above. I think it turned out great so far. I will also be adding additional blue LEDs to better wash the entire top portion of the hull.

Where did you find the figures to fit your NAUTILUS?

I am having a devil of a time finding figure to fit my ~72nd scale boat. The best I have found are WWII German U-boat crew that will have to be bashed to fit the period.

Yours look too good to be extensively bashed. How did you do it?

I like your "Green attack lights" idea. One thing that I often notice is that people use the upper set of lights as night time lighting for their R/C models when the film version clearly has the green light coming from the main viewports (and the top lights are actually extinguished during collision attacks).
This idea of swithching the interior lights to green for collision runs is quite believable, in a similar manner to subs having "Red light" conditions. Also it has more of a sea monster look with the the viewports glowing green - and that was the whole point..a clever deception.

Now are you gonna build another one of these puppies for sailing

(My Nautilus has been stuck under Vulcania for the last 10 years - "alas she can never take to the sea again".
Her retirement is broken only with 'dry' visits to model shows. ..but we did have some fun.
