    Glue?

I'm building the conning tower on my VII/C which is made primarily out resin. Instructions recommend:

    * 5 minute expoy for the photo etch deck to resin tower connection

    * CA for all of the deailed resin parts

    * CA for the brass stanchions which are glued into the tower and then soldered to a rail

I seem to recall reading something about 5 minute expoxy not holding up under water and that 1-hour or longer expoy should be used, but I can't find the article. Before I start gluing away I thought I'd ask the experts...

Yup.....an epoxy that takes at least 60 minutes to set is what is needed.

When working with large pieces of PE, I prefer to either use 'mechanical' means to hold the part in place (first choice) or use an epoxy that has some rubber content (second choice). This to minimize the difference on thermal expansion between the PE and the fiberglass. For a conning tower deck, this is really quite minimal, so you may be able to use a straight epoxy.

I've always been told that it depends.

....on how long it is exposed to water.

....on whether or not it is covered with something like paint.

....on how large the area glued with CA is.

As a result, I use CA quite a lot with my r/c sub building but them make sure that I give it a light coat of paint. While this isn't really an answer to the original question, to date I've not had any problems.
