The GZ was not good enough for a direct conversion as I thought it would be. That bowing I mentioned brought that idea to a halt.
BUT.
From the ashes of that idea a rose is blooming.
(Oh. My apartment flooded in the interim. That put any and all projects aside for quite a while. )
Bought a 4-inch PVC pipe at Home Depot. Cut it to length and placed it in the center. Then I cut the fore and aft sections from Hawks GZ kit. The bow is eliminated! My NAUTILUS will swim straight and true.
Skimming the facets now. Looks like a week of sanding ahead.
With your example (and your CD) I think I will actually finish her this time.
For anyone who thinks to do what I have done, bash this zeppelin into a submarine, be warned. The Hawk GZ is not that round. Besides the facets normal to an airship, this kit was a bit squashed. Instead of having a circular cross section, it is oblate --- squashed vertically. I am having to apply more putty on the upper and lower surface to correct this.
Got advice from another builder that the vertical portion of the aft rudder is important for stability in turns. AND having the rudder in the propellr wash is supposed to be more effective says same builder. So may go for Goff-type tail. Which will mean another drawing.
